Charles County

Charles County is in the south suburban Washington, D.C. region, just 15 miles south of the National Capital Beltway. The county has two distinctive business corridors, each with easy access to the entire Washington, D.C. metro area. The western corridor along Route 210 leads to the naval base at Indian Head, home to the military's energetics center and a significant concentration of energetics scientists and engineers. The Route 301 corridor through the county's commercial centers in Waldorf and White Plains is the commercial hub for the region. An ambitious policy of maintaining 50 percent open space as the county grows and develops ensures a high quality of life for generations to come.

Charles County's 2,890 businesses employ 33,300 workers. Additionally, many entrepreneurs are growing their own businesses in Charles County. Including those entrepreneurs, proprietors, and government employment, over 50,000 people work in Charles County. Major employers reflect the growing number of technology related disciplines: Applied Ordnance Technology, Automated Graphics Systems, Besche Oil, Chaney Enterprises, Civista Medical Center, the College of Southern Maryland, the Facchina Group of Companies, and the Naval Support Facility Indian Head.
